Event: What it means to be an artist - is that one finds it absolutely necessary to make art.
One is called to paint, to draw, to dance, to write. What it means to be a mother & an artist is manifold. The supreme creative act is to give birth. To raise a child takes an enormous amount of creative energy & imagination. One is constantly giving and responding to this beloved. One is called to the tasks of mothering. Are these competing calls to the soul? Do we answer them both simultaneously or in a continuous wave pattern -- on again, off again? |

Dance has magical powers to waken both the dancer's and the watcher's connection to source. Like a well, it taps into the aquifer of pure waters of life. Tonight the dancers use this sacred power to invoke The Great Mother in honor of all mothers. This will set the stage for a panel discussion with the 12 Artist/Mothers who are showing their work in the gallery. |

Mt.Tom's Homemade Ice Cream |
Address: 34 Cottage St |
Event: While for most of my creative career I've focused on writing for newspapers, magazines and poetry journals, I've recently been creating collage art using a variety of mixed media - paint, ink, fabric, rubber stamps, pages from old books and other recycled materials.
My show at Mt. Tom's will have a Mother's Day appeal to celebrate that weekend and will be titled 'The Intelligent Woman's Guide to Fun'. The pieces will reflect fashion, color and the versatility of women in general and mother's (and their children) in particular. My granddaughters have contributed some artwork to this show, and I look forward to sharing these colorful and fanciful assemblages. |

The Art of Jen Eckard
Integration: a soft, green word
My artwork grows out of my fascination with the natural world and the body I find myself in, the Spirit underlying them, and the Lila (Divine Play) of their interaction.
This collection of paintings and drawings brings together three components of my exploration: Delving into the physical and spiritual practice of yoga, gazing at the moon as it moves through its cycles, and admiring the majestic animals of the African savannah; relics of childhood dreaming.
All of my pieces are an invitation to step outside of every-day reality in order to connect to a deeper experience of life. The process of creating artwork brings me to a place of clarity and wisdom, where I can better understand the universal meaning of things that might have otherwise appeared mundane.
It is my profound joy to share these offerings with my brothers and sisters!

All works carry throughout them a sense of emotion.
Sensual, physical, pleasurable...
Find your sense of emotion.
Be drawn to the forms around you.
I find this powerful sense of emotion all around me...
in the curve of a flower petal...
in the arch of a human figure's back...
it is quite magnificent.-c. lincoln

Event: I muse, therefore I am. My work reflects whatever captures my interest at a given moment, which means that it tends to be thematically and stylistically “all over the place.” “Whimsical” is a word that comes to mind. Sometimes.
On a more serious level, I am concerned with grand existential themes of the human condition: spirituality, identity, magic, desire, loss, ennui, virtue, innocence, humor, mischief, etc. I try to address these in ways that are at once sophisticated and childlike (hopefully that makes sense).
My portraits aim to be more than just likenesses of people; they are expressions of universal and sometimes ineffable emotions. Likewise, my landscapes intend to symbolize feelings, as much as the literal time-spaces that inspire them. Bees might symbolize of ways of “bee-ing.” Flowers just ARE.
I enjoy painting because it’s a sensual symphony involving color, intellect, the “feel” of the materials, the joy of experimentation, and deliberate physical action, all of which result in something beautiful. It’s also somehow important to me to be part of an old-world tradition.

Artist: Keller Glass |
Medium: Music Performance - Folk |
|
Venue:
Nashawannuck Gallery |
Address: 40 Cottage St |
Event: From his immersion in the hill music of north Mississippi to his passion for the complex improvisations of New York jazz, Keller has always been attracted to and influenced by classic American art-forms. Groups like The Band, Stephen Stills' Manassas and more recently Sound Garden and the North Mississippi Allstars have all greatly affected Keller's understanding of music.
Keller's music features straight-forward chord structures and lilting melodies delivered with his unique baritone voice and haunting steel-guitar playing. His sets feature songs that, like Keller, are original and unpredictable. His lyrics focus on everyday experiences framed in abstract images that often encourage audiences to decide the meaning of these experiences for themselves.
After making ripples in the Orlando coffeehouse scene, Keller opted for the cooler climes and decidedly more bohemian atmosphere of Northampton, MA where he continues his musical explorations. In addition to writing and playing music for its own sake, he has focused much of his energy on writing music for film. In a recent interview he said, 'Film has given me an opportunity to produce more unconventional music that normally would not be accepted on its own and really focus on the basics of mood and emotion.'
With a serious catalogue of music, Southern charm and wry humor Keller is poised to make a big splash on the New England music scene.
