Past Art Walk December 09, 2006
Artist: Salena Levi |
Medium: Ceramics - Sculptural |
|
Venue:
Awen Tree |
Address: 102 Cottage St |
Event: After ten years as a production potter, designing serving pieces for
cooking and dining, Salena began to explore clay as an art form. With her
interest in dance and the rhythms found in river, tree and rock, she began to move the infinitely responsive clay into flowing sensual forms. This new direction was further developed during a year of studio work while living in New Mexico. Combining wheel throwing with slab additions for the vessels and pure slab construction for the wall
sculptures, she experimented with outdoor smoke firings. Her current
work is with a low fire white clay body, treated with terra sigillata, oxides and stains for colorand burnished to a satiny glow.

Artist: Cindy Kunz |
Medium: Mixed Media |
|
Venue:
Crooked House Designs |
Address: 86 Cottage St. |
Event: POLYMER CLAY/MIXED MEDIA. After a brief foray into equipment-intensive ceramics, I discovered the virtues and potential of polymer clay. No other material offers me such versatility and speed of progression from an idea to a completed piece. The clay can be manipulated and altered in endless ways; I can incorporate found objects and images, embellish and combine it with other materials.
Much of my current work reflects my response to the many forms, expressions and deceptions of spirituality and purpose. And no matter where I think a piece is headed, I always end up immersed in themes of death, rebirth, loss, recovery, the shroud and the reveal. My intent is to express the duality of our perfectly imperfect earthly existence and offer a final sense of hope and joy. |

Event: Mt. Tom from Mt. Tom's
A series of images depicting one of my favorite subjects, Mt. Tom. I've photographed it many times, with a wide range of results. I will display my favorites, the ones that for me best capture the beauty and intrigue of Easthampton's majestic centerpiece. Mt. Tom usually rests quietly, guarding the east horizon, but ocassionally it finds unexpected moments to shine. Stop by to view a few of those moments. |

Artist: Carolyn Caldwell |
Medium: Pastels |
|
Venue:
KW Home |
Address: 82.5 Cottage St |
Event: This show, "Houses by the Sea", is part of my larger "Lobsterville" series which interprets local icons found in and around Stonington and Deer Isle, Maine. I was drawn to this area, where I’ve lived for the past 6 years, because it has such a sense of place. An unspoiled working community of lobstermen and those of us "from away" inhabit a place that is still authentic and yet wildly scenic. A house by the sea is a childhood (and adult) fantasy. But the houses shown in this series are real and you would recognize them if you happened to stroll by. |

Artist: Steve Biegner |
Medium: Music Performance |
|
Venue:
Metacomet Stage Event Time: 5:00 - 6:30 pm |
Address: 43 Main St |
Event: Since the Fall of 2005, Steve Biegner, Adam Bach, and Brian Sloan have been working on Steve Biegner's new album "As the Orchestra Swells (the lights go out)." Now, almost a year later, they are done. They had a little help from Gideon Freudmann who provided the brooding cello and other strange noises; from Matt Larsen who played some sweet piano and organ on some tunes; from Ross Bellenoit of the Systematics who played a sometimes angry, sometimes soothing guitar; and from Erin Cleary who gave us her beautiful voice and her beautiful artwork.
Dave Chalfant produces this new record, and he expertly captures the organic sound of the acoustic instruments as well as the intensity the trio has during live shows. He knew when to say "enough," on tracks such as the sparse "Onward! to Purgatory!!." And he also knew when to say "more" like with "Prodigal Son," a very Sufjan Stevens influenced song, or "A Window, a Vault..." which is a very big, grand, and lush in its orchestration. He also knew when to say, "Is anybody hungry?" and yes, feasts did abound!
All in all, the trio is very happy with what has become "As the Orchestra Swells (the lights go out)." They all hope that you "drink a dream so heavenly, God pines for your revery.
"...a blend of Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley, Steve Biegner is going places." - Local Buzz Magazine
