| Art Walk Easthampton Adds Free Event Shuttle, La Guagua | | May 02, 2008 11:06 pm EDT | The monthly Art Walk Easthampton has a new way for guests to explore the event's diverse offering of visual, music and performance events - a free shuttle service.
The new service kicks off with the May 10th Art walk and will travel among the clusters of participating venues. The brightly colored bus comes from Holyoke Community College and is called La Guagua, the little bus. The shuttle seats 20 and is wheelchair accessible.
Initial service will be available from 5-7 PM and have four stops. The service may expand depending on the number of riders and the location of each month's participating venues. Stops for the May 10th Art Walk Easthampton are at Eastworks on Pleasant Street, at Blue Guitar Gallery on Northampton Road, at Old Town Hall on Main Street and on Cottage Street by the Nashawannuck Dam.
Art Walk Easthampton is the "Second Saturday" of each month with participating locations all over Easthampton. Organizers hope the new service will encourage more guests, particularly those who have mobility difficulties, to come enjoy the art, music and performance events. All events are free. | Easthampton Paint Out: A Call for Plein Air Painters | | May 02, 2008 3:10 pm EDT | EASTHAMPTON, MA – The growing creative community of Easthampton is going to have its first plein air painting competition in a “Paint Out” set for May 8-10.
During the two-day event, participating artists must paint within the city limits of Easthampton at an outdoor location. The freshly completed works will be exhibited at Nashawannuck Gallery beginning May 10 with a grand prize winner and a people’s choice winner announced during that evening’s Art Walk Easthampton.
“The Connecticut River Valley has a long history of plein air painting,” says Marlies Stoddard, manager of Nashawannuck Gallery and the event’s organizer. “A Paint Out seemed like a natural extension of this proud artistic history and contributes to the growing recognition of Easthampton as an arts community.”
Oils, acrylic, watercolor and mixed media/painting works are accepted.
The Easthampton Paint Out begins with the stamping of your blank canvas at Nashawannuck Gallery. Stamping begins at 11 am Thursday, May 8th and continues during normal gallery hours through Saturday, May 10th at 11 am. Completed pieces are to be returned to the Gallery by 2 PM on Saturday for exhibition and judging. The exhibition will open with a reception at 5 PM during Art Walk Easthampton.
The exhibition will include a grand prize selection by the show juror as well as a “people’s choice” award where Art Walk attendees vote for a favorite work. Winners will be announced at 7:30 PM during the opening reception. The grand prize winner and the People Choice award winners have their painting purchased by Easthampton Savings Bank for $300 each.

| "ART SLUTS" ON THE WALK DECEMBER 8th | | November 29, 2007 5:18 pm EST | EASTHAMPTON -- The December 8th Art Walk Easthampton involves 36 artists and musicians, and a tantalizing cyber-event that celebrates "Art Sluts."
"These are items you won't find in the malls," says co-organizer Michael Crawford, noting that the event is a great way to find holiday gifts. "And just as each work of art is unique, so is the story behind it."
Live music is a vital part of each Art Walk and this month's line-up includes the Carol Abbe Smith Jazz Ensemble, Boston-based folk singer Chris Wilhelm, the rhythmic beats of the Psychic Tribal Orchestra, Latin-inspired music from duo Clay Jazz, and Americana folk music by Aric Bieganek. All performances are free and held in conjunction with interesting art shows that include photography, painting, mixed media, drawing, fiber arts, custom furniture, jewelry and craft items. Large multi-artist shows are being held in the Eastworks building, in Old Town Hall, at Nashawannuck Gallery and Blue Guitar Gallery while solo shows are at other venues.
This month's most unusual event is a two-way, live cyber discussion with Barb Benson who will appear on-screen at Nashawannuck Gallery and talk with guests about her new book, "The Art Slut's Guide to Making It as a Visual Artist." The artist-cum-writer beams in from her residence in Key West, Florida. Signed copies of her new book, along with "Art Sluts" t-shirts also will be available. The two-way interactive cyber event is another "first" for Art Walk Easthampton.
Participating locations display the large, yellow Art Walk banner outside. Venues are along Cottage, Railroad, Union, Main, Northampton and Pleasant streets. Parking is free and readily available at all locations. Visitors can print out their own guide directly from the website at www.ArtWalkEasthampton.org after December 1.

| Art Walk Combines Avante-garde and Historic | | September 04, 2007 8:22 pm EDT | There's not a flood in sight but there they will be, silently swimming along Cottage Street.
The Silver Swimmers, a performance troupe, will be part of the September 8th Art Walk Easthampton, joining a full slate of visual, music and performance events that embrace the past and the leading edge.
The four-person, roving group creates interactive performance installations through dance and interaction with the environment. Completely covered in silver body paint and wearing swim suits and bathing caps styled from the early 1900s, they swim through a realm where the qualities of air and water are reversed, having broken through a tear in the the fabric of reality. The group's innovative performance approach is influenced by a variety of dance and theatrical techniques.
As the Swimmers school along Cottage Street, almost two dozen visual art shows, live music acts and historic exhibitions cover the creative spectrum. The Easthampton Historical Society opens its "History House" for a photography and memorabilia-filled peek into Easthampton's past and showcases the exhibit, "Celebrating A Child - Circa 1920." The Carole Abbe Smith Ensemble performs jazz standards and bebop outdoors in Pulaski Park accompanied by the fire arts group Team FADE while at Luthiers Coop blues artist and master slide guitarist Mark Nomad performs music from his album "Acoustic Land."
Visual art shows include printmaker Art Larson's works at Blue Guitar Gallery, photographer Marty Klein's "Images from Green World" at Apollo Grill, the study of movement by New York City photographer Jene Youtt at Mary Ann's Dance and More, Bruce Barone's black and white photographs of religious icons from the Pioneer Valley at Awen Tree, oil painter Pacifico Palumbo's "Floral and Garden" collection at KW Home, Astrid Sheckels' oils and watercolor works at Elusie Gallery, painter Paul Root's works at Valley Art Supplies, new encaustic works by Nancy Natale at her studio, Carol Osberg's hand-painted furniture and ornaments at her studio, Mischa Epstein Alvarado's collages at Mt. Tom's Homemade Ice Cream and a hands-on felt-making demonstration at New England Felting Supply.

| Mo Ringey Turns over Newsletter to Art Walk Easthampton | | August 14, 2007 3:53 pm EDT | Local artist Mo Ringey is calling it quits on her popular weekly newsletter and handing it over to Art Walk Easthampton for continued publication. The change is effective immediately.
The newsletter, "The Arts Newsletter Experiment," lists art openings throughout the Pioneer Valley and includes commentary on the life of an artist.
"Mo Ringey created an important resource for artists throughout the Pioneer Valley and we'll do our best to continue that," says Michael Crawford, co-organizer of Art Walk Easthampton.
"I am thrilled to have the newsletter transfer to the caring hands of special people," said Ringey. "It can only improve. I believe I have tears in my eyes. Enjoy. I wish everyone boundless joy and happy events."
Current subscribers will have to renew their subscriptions in order to receive the free newsletter. Readers can click the Arts Newsletter Experiment logo at www.ArtWalkEasthampton.org to renew.
The newsletter takes a two-week break during the transition and returns on Tuesday, September 4th.

| New Pedestrian Shortcut Opens Between Eastworks and Union Street Venues | | May 08, 2007 7:22 pm EDT | Thanks to a cooperative effort among Art Walk Easthampton, Friends of the Manhan Rail Trail and Eastworks owner Will Bundy, a new pedestrian shortcut soon will make it easier to walk between Eastworks and businesses along Union, Cottage and Main Streets.
The new Connector Path links the back door of Eastworks with the Manhan Rail Trail, providing a much shorter stroll among Easthampton's business areas. Better Pathways, the contractor doing the work, hopes to 'rough in' the walkway by the May 12, 2007 Art Walk. Landscapping will come later, followed by a dedication event in the summer.

Along Cottage Street you'll find the black and white photography of Becky Hoffer at Awen Tree, the colorful, abstract paingings of Nancy Natale at KW Home, a bluegrass jam session of local musicians at Luthiers Co op, the paintings of Edward Mooers at Valley Art Supplies and a collection of horse-inspired paintings by Ali Potasky at Mt. Tom's Homemade Ice Cream.
At Easthampton Municipal Building, 50 Payson, you'll discover two floors of paintings, drawings and photographs in a show called "Introductions: Student Works from Williston Northampton."
Along Union Street, the Manhan Cafe shows two movies from 1963, with "AutoMania 2000" and "City, Cars or People," both as part of a film series presented by Sustainable Energy Easthampton. At PACE (Pioneer Arts Center of Easthampton), come and enjoy Northampton singersongwriter Andrea Coller from 5-6:30 PM.
Elusie Gallery in Old Town Hall presents 'Speaking to the Eyes,' an exhibit of oil paintings and computer generated limited edition prints by Gaddier Rosario.
Just across from the Post Office is Blue Guitar Gallery, presenting an immersive experience with color photography by Julia Max, as she explores the spirit of tress, music by Bill O'Haire, movement performance by Christina Svane and a slide show presentation by photographer Andrea Lawrence.
Eastworks, at 116 Pleasant Street, has several participating studios. In Suite 206, 'Captain' Luke Cavagnac and the Florence Poets Society presents the kind of poetry your grandmother warned you to stay away from. In suite 229, Red Horse Press presents recent etchings and woodcuts by Ali Osborn and Marguerite Keyes. In Suite 240, jelerly artist Susan Card showcases her fused dichroic glass earrings and necklaces.

The grant will be used to promote the growing arts and culture walking tour which occurs each "Second Saturday" of the month from 5-8 PM.
Since its beginning in September 2006, Art Walk Easthampton has grown in the number of participating venues, artists and geographic scope. | Blue Guitar Gallery Holds Grand Opening on Art Walk | | February 13, 2007 4:26 pm EST | Easthampton's newest gallery opens on March 10, 2007 during the Art Walk with a grand opening celebration of visual, music and performance art.
Blue Guitar Gallery, under the direction of Christina Svane and Bill O'Haire, is located at 186-D Northampton St., across from the post office. The gallery will offer fine art pieces as well as guitar performances and lessons on an on-going basis.
